Samantha Schultz '20

Biochemistry Biological Sciences Neuroscience

Samantha Schultz is from Taunton, Mass. She doubled majored in biochemistry and medical biology while minoring in neuroscience.

During her time at UNE, Schultz worked in the lab of Christoph Straub, Ph.D., assistant professor of biomedical sciences, in the College of Osteopathic Medicine. In the lab, she employed whole-cell patch-clamp recordings to study electrophysiology of neurons. In the next academic year, Schultz plans on enrolling in a Molecular, Cellular, and Biochemistry Ph.D. program.

She hopes to pursue a thesis that applies to electrophysiological methods. These methods would be used to study iPSC-derived spinal motor neurons involved in the pathogenesis of neurodegenerative diseases, such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia. Schult鈥檚 long-term goal is to become an Associate Professor of Molecular/Cellular Biology and Neuroscience.
