Lu鈥橝nn Garza, B.S., CGMS, senior grants and finance administrator within UNE鈥檚 Center for Excellence in Public Health, recently passed the Certified Grant Management Specialist (CGMS) examination and earned the CGMS credential from the National Grants Management Association.

The CGMS credential recognizes Garza鈥檚 comprehensive knowledge and specialty practice in the field of full lifecycle grants management and demonstrates her dedication to the highest standards of competency as a grants management professional. She is one of more than 300 grant managers in the United States who have earned the prestigious designation.

The CGMS is a rigorous examination that provides a mechanism to measure judgment, application of knowledge, and problem-solving abilities in the full life cycle of grants management. It consists of questions in general grants management knowledge, pre-award activities, award activities, post-award activities, and audit/closeout requirements.

To obtain the CGMS credential, individuals must meet all eligibility requirements and demonstrate proficiency in grants management by passing the CGMS examination.

鈥淭he Certified Grants Management Specialist program gives individuals access to a high-standard credential which recognizes their experience, competency, and professionalism in the field of grants management,鈥 said NGMA Executive Director Tip Tucker Kendall, CAE.
