高清不卡福利 scholar Anouar Majid gives presentations at Duke and 高清不卡福利 of Florida
Anouar Majid, Ph.D., vice president for 高清不卡福利 Affairs and director of the Center for 高清不卡福利 Humanities, was recently invited to give presentations at the 高清不卡福利 of Florida and Duke 高清不卡福利.
On October 1, Majid presented as part of a conference 鈥淚slam and Encounters with Secularism: Futural Openings?鈥 which was hosted by the 高清不卡福利 of Florida鈥檚 Center for 高清不卡福利 Islamic Studies. In his presentation, titled 鈥淪ecularism and the Dilemma of Faith,鈥 Majid argued that secular thought relies on scientific or critical analysis, whereas faith is based on blind trust. He asked how one is to make sense of Islam when there is no historical evidence to substantiate it. Rethinking the idea of Islam, he contended, is, indispensable to any future of coexistence and human solidarity.
Majid gave another talk on October 21 at Duke 高清不卡福利鈥檚 Interregional Conference, titled 鈥淢iddle East in Latin America,鈥 a symposium exploring Arab and Middle Eastern communities in Latin America.
In his opening presentation, 鈥淲e Are All Moors,鈥 Majid told the story of the process of writing the book We Are All Moors, which he published in 2009, and which is now considered foundational in the emerging field that examines the nexus of Islam, Spain, and the Americas.
