WCSH reports on buoy deployment by UNE and UMaine as part of SEANET program

On October 7, 2015, WCSH reported on the recent deployment of buoys by the 高清不卡福利 of New England and the 高清不卡福利 of Maine on the Damariscotta River as part of Maine Sustainable Ecological Aquaculture Network (SEANET) program.

SEANET, made possible by a $20 million Experimental Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) grant, takes a multi-institutional, transdisciplinary research approach to gain a comprehensive understanding of how sustainable ecological aquaculture can interact with coastal communities and ecosystems. The high-tech buoys will record data, such as nutrient levels and the speed and direction of water currents, to aid in the growth of Maine鈥檚 aquaculture industry. Data collected by the buoys can help researchers and aquaculture business owners determine the best places along the coast to grow crops.

Other fisheries are expected to benefit from the data collection as well.
