David Livingstone Smith addresses dehumanization at Etz Chaim Synagogue

David Livingstone Smith, Ph.D., professor of philosophy, will give a talk at 7:30 p.m. on November 13, 2015, at Etz Chaim Synagogue in Portland.

"Standing up for humanity: resisting the urge to dehumanize others" discusses our psychological disposition to degrade others and to conceive of them as subhuman animals.

Smith is the author of Less Than Human: Why We Demean, Enslave, and Exterminate Others (2011).
