Susan Gray presents at Joint Mathematics Meetings of American Mathematical Society and Mathematical Association of America

Susan Gray, Ed.D., associate professor and chair in the Department of Mathematical Sciences, presented a paper on January 15, 2014, at the Joint Mathematics Meetings of the American Mathematical Society and the Mathematical Association of America in Baltimore, Maryland.

Developed in collaboration with co-authors from Regis and Merrimack Colleges in Massachusetts, the paper is titled, 鈥淒oes the Type of Variable Affect Undergraduates鈥 Interpretations of Algebraic Expressions?鈥  This research examines and compares college students鈥 uses and interpretations of generic and first-letter variables and categorizes the types of responses according to a framework developed by the authors.
