Keith Matassa interviewed for Courier story on mysterious seal pup deaths

Keith Matassa, coordinator of UNE's Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center, was interviewed for an Oct. 27, 2011 Biddeford-Saco-OOB Courier news story on the mysterious deaths of more than 145 seal pups found on beaches in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts the past three weeks.

Matassa explained that it was unusual for so many pups to die in such a short time. He said that the center had performed nine necropsies or autopsies on dead seals to collect blood smaples, stomach content analysis and tissue samples for the National Marine Fisheries.
