Marilyn Gugliucci gives two presentations at the 65th Gerontological Society of American (GSA) Scientific Annual Meeting

Marilyn R. Gugliucci, Ph.D. has recently returned from the 65th Gerontological Society of American (GSA) Scientific Annual Meeting in New Orleans, LA.  She had two presentations: 鈥淟earning by Living漏: Life Altering Medical Education Research鈥 and a featured symposium entitled:  鈥淎 Roadmap for Accreditation in Gerontology/Geriatrics.鈥    For the symposium, Dr. Gugliucci presented with national and international colleagues Caroll Estees, Ph.D.  高清不卡福利 of  California; Rene van Rijsselt, Netherlands, Judith Howe, Ph.D.,  Mount Sinai School of Medicine,  Annabelle Pelham, Ph.D. 高清不卡福利 of San Francisco, and Frank Whittington, George Mason 高清不卡福利 the symposium discussant.  

During the Annual Meeting, Dr. Gugliucci accepted the nomination to run for Chair of GSA鈥檚 Health Science (formerly Clinical Medicine) Section.  GSA has 5,200+ members and its Health Science section has 1500+ members. Elections will be held in the Spring of 2011.

Also at the GSA meeting, Dr Gugliucci was named the Chair of the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) Accreditation Committee, in which she and her committee will establish a national accrediting body for gerontology programs. AGHE is the education unit of the GSA and the only institutional member organization dedicated to Geriatrics and Gerontology education. Currently there is no such accrediting body; although AGHE has implemented the Program of Merit (POM) that recognizes gerontology/geriatric programs meeting Association standards for curriculum, financial resources, academic resources, and institutional viability. Dr Gugliucci has been co-chair for the POM and a POM reviewer since 2003. Higher education administrators and program chairs have been requesting an accreditation body for programs on aging; AGHE the expected organization to implement an accreditation body.
