Brian Duff quoted in story on judge's ruling to overturn California same-sex marriage ban

Brian Duff, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science, was quoted in an Aug. 5, 2010 on the effects in Maine of a federal judge's decision to overturn the ban on same-sex marriage in California. Same sex marriage was defeated in a people's veto in Maine in November 2009. Duff told MPBN that conservative Republicans like gubernatorial candidate Paul LePage could use the California ruling to fire up the base. "Gay marriage is something that there's been a lot more anxiety about it on the conservative side," Duff says. "So it's in a sense - it's something where he can talk about that Mainers have spoken on this issue and that they're going to need a governor who is willing to back up their perspective."
