Brian Duff interviewed by Portland Press Herald on latest gubernatorial race poll

Brian Duff, Ph.D., assistant professor of political science, was quoted in a June 2, 2010 story on the latest poll on Maine's gubernatorial primary race. Duff said candidate Les Otten's lead among Republican candidates reflects his name recognition, but that the poll was conducted before MaineToday Media announced its endorsements of Steve Abbott and Patrick McGowan. Such endorsements can give candidates momentum that wouldn't be captured by the poll.  Duff also said there might not be as many undecided voters as the poll suggests. "People do not like to admit to someone that calls them on the phone that they're not going to vote," he said, so when registered party members are called by pollsters, they may instead say that they're undecided.
