Benefit breakfast for UNE Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center gets front-page coverage

The Journal Tribune (Biddeford) on Nov. 15, 2010 published a front-page story with photos on a benefit breakfast for UNE's Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center (MARC) hosted by Kennebunkport's Nonantum Resort, which has a stuffed harbor seal as its mascot. The benefit breakfast is one of a series the resort hosts each year to benefit a particular local non-profit. Keith Matassa, MARC coordinator, explained that the center has rehabilitated more than 80 seals this year, about twice the average for a season. Each seal costs about $2,500 to treat, and the cost for endangered sea turtles is about $10,000 per turtle. "This benfit comes at a great time," he said. "The number of animals is stretching our budget."
